Descendants of John Wesling


There was another family in the Carroll Co., area that spelled their name Wessling. That may be the correct spelling for this name. The St. Lucas records show that John Wesling was a contributor to the building of the church. There were no draft registrations for the name Wesling found in Iowa.

1-John Wesling was born from 1784 to 1785 in Preußen and died after 1860 in Washington, Winneshiek Co., Iowa. John married Elisabeth. Elisabeth was born in 1790 in Preußen. They had three children: John, Elizabeth, and Mary.

2-John Wesling Jr. was born about 1824 in Preußen. John married Mary Douglass on 23 Jul 1844 in Oldenburg, Franklin Co., Indiana. Mary was born about 1824. They had two children: Josephine and Elizabeth. The 1850 census shows them living in Ray, Franklin Co., Indiana where he was a farmer. In 1860 John and Elisabeth lived in Fort Atkinson.

3-Josephine Wesling was born in 1848 in Ohio.

3-Elizabeth Wesling was born in 1849 in Indiana.

2-Elizabeth Wesling was born before 1830 in Oldenburg, Prussia. Elizabeth married Frederick Drees on 16 Jan 1850 in Oldenburg, Franklin Co., Indiana. Frederick was born in 1826 in Oldenburg, Prussia and died after 1880 in Ray, Franklin Co., Indiana. They had three children: Anthony, Henry, and Joseph.

Note: There is a Frederick Drees in New Wine Township in Dubuque Co. in the 1870 census, page 394. In 1880 they lived on a farm in Ray.

3-Anthony Drees was born in 1866 in Iowa.

3-Henry Drees was born in 1870 in Ray, Franklin Co., Indiana.

3-Joseph Drees was born in 1879 in Ray, Franklin Co., Indiana.

2-Mary Wesling was born in 1834 in Preußen.
